Culture & History

Built in a striking 18th-century palazzo, the hotel has been designed to celebrate the European Grand Tour - a trip of Europe undertaken by upper-class young men in the 18th century, seeking to embrace new art, culture, politics, food and architecture. Though several countries were included in the tour, Rome was a focal point due to its rich history and distinctive buildings. The result was a revolution in the cultural outlook of the British; their architecture was redefined, while interiors came to be filled with an array of objects, furniture and art that had been collected on their travels. Hotel De La Ville’s guest rooms reflect these acquired items, combining fascinating history with contemporary luxury.
