    Known as one of the USA’s most charming cities, Boston offers world-class museums and colleges (Harvard is just across the river in the suburb of Cambridge) and no end of historic sites along the ‘Freedom Trail’. It’s a city made for walking and cycling, with parks, rivers and harbourfront trails all waiting to be explored. It’s also a city of intriguing neighbourhoods, from the cobbled streets of Beacon Hill, the boutique shops of Newbury Street or the grand buildings lining the perimeter of Boston Common.

    TRANSFERS

    Fly to Boston’s Logan Airport, which is located conveniently close to Downtown, and take a short transfer (15 minutes) to your central hotel.

    Time to bid a fond farewell to Boston and hit the road for the start of your New England adventure. It’s a short drive today, affording plenty of time to enjoy a few stops along the way. Some of our recommended detours include Salem, site of the infamous ‘witch trials’ in the late 17th Century, the fishing port of Gloucester or the historic coastal community of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. On days 6 and 7, discover the seaside charm of popular Kennebunkport, famous as the summer home of former president George HW Bush.

    Collect your chosen rental car on departure from Boston on the morning of Day 5, and head north to Kennebunkport (approx. 85 miles).
