City Highlights

Boston is a clever city; it's buildings are innovative, the architecture is crafted for 21st century living and the students belong to an academic elite. Both Harvard and Boston University are in close proximity and the city enjoys a young, optimistic vibe for this reason. Premier attractions include the John F Kennedy Library and Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Skywalk Observatory. Follow the students to an arty independent cinema showing new-age films or head over to Agganis Arena to watch Boston University's basketball and hockey teams. Alternatively, escape the students and head to North End, Boston's Italian neighbourhood. Jam packed with restaurants, cafés and bakeries, there is no avoiding the heady smell of freshly baked bread and rich tomato sauce. Absolute bliss. Walking and jogging trails are in close proximity to the hotel - the Boston Common and Charles River bike paths are only blocks away.

Climate

Summer is the hottest time of year in Boston, with an average temperature of 80 degrees and high humidity levels. December, January and February are the coldest months, with the most snowfall.  Spring and autumn’s temperatures are the most moderate, and because Boston is part of New England, it is particularly delightful in the autumn (September to early November) when the leaves of the many trees change colour, turning the whole region into a work of living art.

Catch a glimpse of the Green Monster, a 37ft high wall in left field that is the most famous feature at Fenway Park and a popular target for right-handed hitters who can score an easy home run.

Copley Square

Take a stroll around the famous Copley Square in Back Bay, where you will unearth a handful of historic buildings, such as the ornate French-Romanesque Trinity Church, a masterpiece designed by the architect, Henry Hobson Richardson. Just across the street is the classic Boston Public Library, dating from 1852. It is America’s first municipal library, boasting a magnificent façade and wonderful artworks. Stroll around the square further and discover a sculpture by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and murals by John Singer Sargent, it really is a splendid place to spend an afternoon sightseeing.

Boston Common

Retreat to the marvellous 50-acre Boston Common, a lush green park, crisscrossed with walking paths and dotted with wonderful monuments. It is steeped in history, including being a campground for British troops during the Revolutionary War and as a field for grazing cattle until the 1830s. Today, the park serves as a destination for sunbathers, picnickers and theatre performances of Shakespeare on the Common in the summer months, whilst in the winter, the Frog Pond serves as an excellent ice-skating rink. Whether you take a leisurely stroll or a guided tour, you will not be disappointed with this green paradise.
