Just south of the private paradise of Mustique, you will find the possibly even more elusive retreat of Canouan. With the longest private runway in the Grenadines, private jets can swoop in seamlessly, while yachts can pull up in the country’s first super yacht marina, making it no surprise that this island is has already gained a reputation for being one of the most exclusive holiday destinations in the Caribbean.
The prestigious Mandarin Oriental Canouan makes up most of the north-east part of the island, where you will also find the beautifully landscaped Jim Fazio golf course. Beyond the gates of the resort, you will also find a number of ultra-luxe villas, all boasting breathtaking views of the sea from luscious garden surroundings. Canouan is made for lazy days spent lounging on the sands or kicking back on a catamaran or yacht. From here, you can head out for a day at beautiful Tobago Cays, which was picked as the background for Pirates of the Caribbean, and spot the turtles as you snorkel the serene shallows. You may also wish to visit Shell Beach; named for the shells that line its shores, spend an afternoon paddle boarding before relaxing with a spa treatment. You could even board a speed boat to the nearby island of Mustique and enjoy a drink at the renowned Basil’s Bar before returning for the evening.
