Spectacular Scenery
Rugged and largely untouched, Riviera Nayarit combines a captivating coastline and palm-fringed beaches with mountainous rainforest and nature sanctuaries. All this allows for plenty of alfresco activities – including hiking, cycling, horse-riding, rappelling, ATV adventures and more! You may choose to soar across the jungles by zipline or spot a wealth of birdlife as you kayak along natural estuaries and mangroves. Possible species include belted kingfishers, Inca doves, bronzed cowbirds, Mexican wood nymphs, Military MaCaws and more.
Marine Adventures
Fringed by the Mexican Pacific, Riviera Nayarit offers easy access to the delights of the ocean. Take to the waves with an array of watersports – including kayaking, kite boarding, paddle boarding and sailing – or sip sundowners as you cruise along the coast as evening falls. Deep sea fishing is spectacular here, with catches including bass, tuna and marlin, while scuba diving or snorkelling invites you to discover a wealth of tropical fish and marine creatures. Offering some of the world’s best reef breaks, surfing is incredibly popular along the riviera too, while unforgettable and unobtrusive whale and whale shark watching trips can also be enjoyed during their migration season.
Culture and Traditions
Along with the natural delights of the region, Riviera Nayarit is home to several seaside towns and traditional pueblos, inviting you to discover the local way of life here. The native Huichol Indians – direct descendants of Aztecs - can be found near Sayulita in the foothills and highlands of Mexico’s Sierra Madre Mountain Range. Across several communities, you can respectfully explore their artwork, lifestyle and traditional ceremonies.
