Highlights
Elephants
Though a range of wildlife can be spotted with Tarangire, the park is particularly popular with elephants. In fact, up to 3,000 of these incredible creatures can be found here during peak months.
Safari
A safari in either of these parks poses the opportunity to spot a diverse selection of fascinating wildlife - including zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, buffalo, Thompson's gazelle, leopard and cheetah. Whether you want to head out as the sun rises, in the mid-afternoon or in the dead of night, our Travel Consultants will be pleased to arrange the perfect safari experience for you, complete with the expert knowledge of your guide.
Bird Watching
As well as the famous mammals that roam the parks, they are also home to a spectacular array of birdlife. Flamingos in particular are drawn to the mineral-filled waters of Lake Manyara, as well as a number of other waterbirds. In Tarangire, one of Tanzania's finest birding destinations, lucky visitors may spot oryx, generuk and mongoose.
Tree-Climbing Lions
One of the main reasons that Lake Manyara National Park is so popular with visitors is its famed population of tree-climbing lions. Prepare to be awed as these stunning cats (often weighing up to 400 pounds!) climb up onto the branches of the acacia trees, ready to enjoy a blissful nap and cool breeze. Of course, it also gives these predators a great vantage point from which to observe their prey.
Striking Scenery
Lake Manyara National Park showcases some of the most dramatic scenery in Tanzania, with the Great Rift Valley escarpment descending 550 metres to the wildlife-filled lake.
