Six Things to Love About Six Senses Ibiza

Introducing Ibiza's newest luxury hotel...

After nearly two years without getting on an aeroplane (probably the longest I've gone in my adult life!), I finally dusted off my passport in July for an incredible trip to the shiny new Six Senses Ibiza. And what a return to travel it was! Once all the necessary COVID tests were taken and I was on my way, the whole process was pretty stress-free, and I can now offer my clients first-hand tips and advice when travelling at the moment. Masks were worn on the plane, transfers and walking around the hotel, meaning that I felt safe throughout my stay, without the luxury holiday experience ever being compromised. Whilst I adored every aspect of this luxury Ibiza hotel, here are six things that made it truly special...

1. Stunning Surroundings

As a first timer in Ibiza, I was completely blown away by just how beautiful it is. Worlds away from the clubbing scene that may spring to mind, Six Senses Ibiza is tucked away on a gorgeously rugged and unspoiled coastline at the north of the island, surrounded by pine forests and rich foliage, overlooking the amazingly clear waters of Cala Xarraca Bay. Built on a hillside, the views are wonderful (especially from the highest suites) and the signature sunsets certainly didn't disappoint - particularly with a cocktail in hand! I loved how you could do as much or as little as you wanted here - from simply lying beside the infinity pool to paddleboarding across the bay or e-biking in the forest - whilst always able to enjoy the scenery.

2. Sustainability

A much-loved luxury hotel brand by all of us here at Elegant Resorts, Six Senses is dedicated to offering the top level of luxury whilst always keeping the environment in mind. Nowhere is this truer than at their new Ibiza hotel. There's no plastic at all, local materials have been used to build the authentic Ibizan aesthetic, they've introduced cutting-edge geothermal cooling systems to save water, renewable energy is used wherever possible, and The Farm grows fruit and veg (using their own natural fertilizers and herbicides) which is then served at the hotel's restaurants. The super-stylish and sustainably focused boutique also offers a collection of chic clothing that you can rent during your stay, keeping you looking great whilst caring for the planet too - win win!

3. Signature Six Senses Style

All Six Senses hotels are so stylish and effortlessly cool, combining modern, minimalistic décor with five-star amenities. This was the case across Six Senses Ibiza - from the vibrant infinity pool surrounded by beautiful people, to the laid-back yet professional service offered by all the staff. I was lucky enough to stay in a stunning and super-spacious Sea View Premium Junior Suite in the Village Wing. The sage colour scheme, rose gold touches and rustic woven furnishings really channelled the serene spirit of Ibiza, plus there was so much space both indoors and out. I could hardly tear myself away from my private terrace overlooking the bay. I also managed to sneak a peek at one of the Cave Suites, built right into the cliff. This is the choice if you're after a more vibrant and ultra-modern Ibiza feel - think an open-plan design, in-suite bar and even access to a sub-terranean recording studio!

4. Wellness at its Heart

Ibiza is an island known for its spirituality, serenity and focus on feeling good - three things that are echoed at the Six Senses hotel here. Firstly, the spa is absolutely amazing, huge and built right into the cliff face. I've seen many hotel spas in my time but this one really had the "wow-factor". The menu was just as impressive, and there were so many treatments and experiences that I haven't heard of before - great for trying something new. Away from the spa, the list of experiences on offer (which I'll talk about more in a minute) incorporated loads of wellness-related activities, including sunset gong sessions, underwater meditation and breathing exercises. During my stay, I started the day in the best way possible, with sunrise yoga on the rooftop overlooking the bay, whilst I also tried out a primal movement class! If you really want to dedicate your stay to wellness, the resort also offers year-round, multi-day 'Immersive Retreats', focusing on everything from detox, fitness and yoga, to anti-ageing, crystal healing and shamanic journeys.

5. To-Die-For Dining

As with everything else at the hotel, the food was fabulous, and all the restaurants are overseen by celebrity Israeli chef, Eyal Shani. He is known for his creative cooking with vegetables (luckily for me as a vegetarian!) and he celebrates the fresh produce grown at the hotel's farm throughout the menus. Of course, there are non-veggie options too, all promising the same quality produce. Eggs are laid by the hotel's own chickens, seafood is sourced from local fishermen, and menus feature local grass-fed meats, plus there's an exciting list of biodynamic wines to complement the menus, as well as an extensive cocktail list using botanicals from the Six Senses garden.

6. Endless Experiences

Whilst relaxation is easy to come by here, the Experience Centre is the place to head for a huge choice of activities that embrace Ibiza. Kayaking, cliff diving and sustainable catamaran trips are among the water-based adventures, whilst there's also an organic cookery school, alfresco cinema, wine vault, alchemy bar, music venue and much more! I took part in a class to craft my own Ibizan liqueur using the freshest local herbs and an exclusive recipe. With expert guidance, I mixed it, bottled it and sealed it... all that's left to do is sample it once it's ready! I was also whisked off aboard a luxury yacht (drink in hand) to see more of the island's stunning scenery.
