From Bear Island, head south through the Barents Sea to Kirkenes, a small town in far northeastern Norway, close to the Finnish and Russian borders.
The town is famous for being one of the best spots in Norway to observe the Northern Lights, due to its dry and cold continental climate. It is also home to the Gabba Reindeer and Husky Park, which, even outside the winter dogsledding period, is open for visitors to learn how these energetic creatures are trained. If you sign up for a Barents Sea king crab fishing excursion in a Zodiac, you even get to feast on your catch afterward. Further north west, you will find Skarsvåg (Nordkapp), the world’s northernmost fishing village, brimming with colourful houses, and the archipelago of Gjesværstappan, a protected seabird reserve, home to hundreds of thousands of puffins, gannets and cormorants.
