Climate

The climate here is typical of the southern Mediterranean, characterised by long hot summers, mild autumn months and early springfall. April, May, September and October are great for slightly cooler temperatures, with June to August often seeing temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. The weather can often be sunny and mild through to early December, though rainfall and storms are more likely. There is little rainfall between April and October.

Getting There

There are direct flights with various airlines to Dalaman from London-Gatwick, London-Stansted, Manchester, Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol and Glasgow. Many airlines only operate this route during the summer season (usually from May to October). The British Airways flight from London-Gatwick to Dalaman takes approximately 4 hours. Flight times vary depending on your airline and departure airport.

Fethiye

Located on the site of the ancient city of Telmessos, Fethiye boasts a fascinating history with ruins still visible today – including the 4th century tomb of Amynta, carved into the cliff and offering panoramic views back over Fethiye. A museum also offers insight into the area’s successive civilisations since the ancient Lycians. The beautiful natural harbour is often frequented by yachts and traditional gulet boats, leading out to a bay scattered picturesque islands – one of which features in the James Bond film Skyfall.

Fethiye
Butterfly Valley

Not far from Ölüdeniz lies the village of Uzunyurt, overlooking the staggeringly beautiful Butterfly Valley. As well as a soft golden sand and turquoise waters, the valley is renowned for its population of over 80 butterfly species, including the unique Jersey tiger butterfly. A range of walking trails take you through the lush gorge.

Butterfly Valley
Kalkan

Set in a simply stunning Mediterranean bay, Kalkan is a town well worth exploring. The charming harbour is full of Turkish wooden gulets (traditional sailing boats), lined by waterfront restaurants and backed by the historic Old Quarter. Explore the winding streets and traditional houses, admire the unique blend of Greek and Turkish architecture, or head up into the nearby Taurus mountains, characterised by magnificent scenery and small traditional villages.

Kalkan
Göcek

Backed by gorgeous greenery, rugged mountains and the beautiful blue Mediterranean Sea, Göcek is a charming coastal village that is renowned for its upmarket marinas, filled with luxury yachts and lined by boutique shops and restaurants. Declared an area of special protection in 1988, the area remains pristine and low-rise, while various coves and islands surround the main town, flaunting pine forests, crystal-clear waters and soft sand. Head out on a boat tour, try out sailing, or simply enjoy the vibrant atmosphere while soaking up the sunshine.

Göcek
Gulet boat charters

The southwest coast of Turkey is renowned for its production of gulet boats - traditional two or three-masted wooden sailing vessels. These can be chartered from various coastal areas in the region, whether for a day exploring the hidden gems or a multi-night sailing adventure in authentic luxury.

Kayaköy

Just south of Fethiye lies Kayaköy, an ancient ghost town of around 4000 abandoned buildings and other stone structures that once made up the Greek town of Levissi. Explore the timeless village and experience its eery atmosphere. In the evening, the ruined churches are lit up, offering an even more otherworldly experience.
