Transfer: The hotel nestles in the centre of a tea plantation on the western side of Nyungwe Forest. It is reached in approximately five hours by scenic private road transfer from Kigali International Airport. Alternatively, domestic flights operate from Kigali to Kamembe Airport, which is just a 45-minute drive from the resort. Private helicopter charters can also be arranged, revealing dazzling views of the Rwandan countryside.

At an additional cost, epic panoramas of the forest can be enjoyed on a breathtaking helicopter ride, while the Canopy Walkway is the only of its kind in East Arica. A swinging bridge hangs 60-metres above the forest floor between giant trees and towers, showcasing the incredible flora and fauna below.

Wildlife Encounters

The lush rainforest is home to some of Rwanda’s most incredible wildlife. As well as hundreds of tree species and many rare flowers, the protected forest houses thirteen species of primate. Chimpanzee trekking is the reason for many guests’ visit, allowing them to join expert trackers deep into the forest, learning about these incredible animals and spotting them in their natural habitat. Colobus monkeys can also be spotted here (the only place in Africa!), while birdwatching is a real treat with 27 species endemic to the area. A wonderful Nyungwe Nature Walk is complimentary, while specialised excursions (including the chimpanzee trekking) can be arranged for an additional cost.

Dining at Nyungwe House is an experience for all five senses. Expect a wealth of authentic Rwandan dishes and international favourites to choose from, each created with organic ingredients from the onsite chef’s garden. Climate

Keeping the area lush, green and biodiverse, the rainforested Nyungwe National Park experiences significant rainfall around the year - approximately 2000mm per annum. Between June to Septmeber and mid-December to February are considered the dry season, though showers are still common during these times. Temperatures vary slightly depending on the altitude and humidity levels, though they remain fairly constant throughout the year, generally between 20 and 30 degrees celcius in the daytime, while the nights are cooler.

Getting There

Flight Information
British Airways direct from London Heathrow to Entebbe and Nairobi. Onward connecting flights with Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Rwandair Express and Air Uganda from Entebbe to Kigali. Kenya Airways and Rwandair Express from Nairobi to Kigali. There are other routes available to Kigali - just ask your Luxury Travel Specialist.

Flight Time
From London Heathrow to Entebbe and Nairobi: 8 hours, 25 minutes.
Onward connecting flights from Nairobi and Entebbe to Kigali: 1 hour, 20 minutes.

Nyungwe Forest National Park can be reached in around 5 hours by road from Kigali. There is also one scheduled flight per day from Kigali to an airstrip near the park, while helicopter transfers can also be arranged – just ask your Luxury Travel Specialist for more details.

Chimpanzee and Monkey Trekking

Nyungwe is home to around 13 different species of primate, including chimpanzees, making tracking these fascinating creatures one of the main reasons that many travellers visit the park. Join an expert tracker as you trek through the lush forest in search of these amazing animals as they play and live in their natural habitat. Supergroups of over 300 Colobus monkeys also live within the park, while it is one of the few places on the planet where L’Hoest’s monkeys can be seen. Beyond these, many of the monkey species found in the park are endemic to the region – including the owl-faced monkey.

Nyungwe Canopy Walk

Offering a different perspective of the enchanting forest, the thrilling canopy walk is suspended between huge trees, lying 60-metres above the ground. The only walk of its kind in East Africa, expect to come face-to-face with cheeky primates, beautiful butterflies and rare birds as you walk among the lush green trees.

An unrivalled destination for bird lovers, Birdlife International has named Nyungwe Forest National Park as “the most important site for biodiversity conservation in Rwanda”, due to its 275 recorded bird species of which 27 are endemic.
