Luxury Holidays At Kanamean Nishitomiya

The only Relais & Châteaux property in enchanting Kyoto, Kanamean Nishitomiya offers an authentic and immersive Japanese experience. This traditional wooden Ryokan is nearly 150 years old, comprising just seven suites with futons, Tatami flooring, ikebana flower arrangements and access to lovely Japanese gardens. The art of Japanese hospitality – omontenashi – is central to the experience here, with the couple owners (whose family have owned the ryokan for generations) ensuring that you are never without a matcha tea, beer, or anything else you may need.
Two hot public baths – designed to resemble the traditional onsen – continue the authentic Kyoto experience, while the ryokan’s central location means that you are just a short stroll from the city’s markets, galleries and exceptional restaurants. The Michelin-starred restaurant’s incredible cuisine can be enjoyed in individual dining rooms, while the property’s basement is home to an impressive wine and sake cellar.

As well as the authenticity of the ryokan itself – both in the style of accommodation, cuisine served and traditional hot baths – the neighbourhood in which it is located is renowned for its artisans, crafts and traditional fan making.
