Culture & History At The Gritti Palace

Venice is a city steeped in rich history and culture. From the 9th to the 12th century - when it developed into a city state - to now, this magnificent icon has stood the test of time. The Gritti Palace is an historic place of interest, dating back to 1475 when Andrea Gritti, the Doge of Venice, commissioned it to be his family's official residence. Stay here to experience the incredible architecture and refined interiors. While in the city, wander through the preserved Venetian streets and stroll to the awe-inspiring St Mark's Square and its gothic centrepiece, Palazzo Ducale. Then, hop on a nearby boat to venture to Murano Island, famed for its flamboyant and colourful Murano glassware. The glass-blowers of Venice were sent to the island centuries ago to work, as the method of glass production was deemed a fire hazard to the city.

City Highlights

Venice, come rain or shine, is sure to impress even the most reluctant romantics, mesmerised by marvellous watery vistas, winding alleyways, elegant townhouses, bijou shops, marble churches and grand palaces. Allow yourself to be serenaded by a singing gondolier as you traverse the network of canals or hop on a vaporetto (water taxi) at dusk to watch the sun set over the city's incredible architecture. A short boat ride from St Mark's Square is Venice Lido, a relaxing seaside resort fringed by a long sandy beach that has long been a haven for aristocracy, poets and writers.
