Culture & History At Amanjiwo
As the morning mist clears and the sun rises above the surrounding volcanoes, it reveals the spiritual and almost inconceivably beautiful Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhism monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Borobudur's six platforms are beautifully decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 life-size Buddha statues, which have survived Gunung Merapi's eruptions and the 2006 earthquake, keeping it as mysterious and striking as it would have been 1,200 years ago. Visit Hindu temples dating back to the 7th and 8th centuries on Dieng Plateau and the ancient site of Prambanan, which provides incredible views of Hindu temples dotted across the plain.
