Overview

Thirteen individual casas have been built using traditional techniques and reclaimed materials, such as abandoned fishing boats, waste iron and fallen eucalyptus trees. Three of the casas are restored fisherman's homes. Indoors, you’ll find a kitchen (in most casas), a living room (in most casas), a king-size bed and satellite television, whereas outdoors, there’s additional living space, an open-air bathroom and a private garden. For an extra special treat, choose the eco-conscious one-bedroom treehouse (Casa da Arvore) with an outdoor tub, al fresco living area, a spa bath on the outdoor deck and a hanging swing, perfect for a sundowner with your significant other. Early check-in and late check-out may be available upon request.

Casa Quintal

This private treehouse-style casa, raised on stilts, would offer perfect accommodation for a couple or honeymooners and is, quite literally, underneath a mango tree! A wooden staircase leads to the living accommodation, which comprises a large bedroom with a canopied four-poster bed, writing desk, cabinet, wooden-shuttered windows and a beamed cathedral-style ceiling. The partially open-air en suite bathroom features double showers and a walk-in wardrobe and offers views across the treetops. A mini-kitchen completes the indoor space. Outside, you'll find a large, rustically furnished, partially open balcony with a table and chairs and a lounging sofa overlooking the main swimming pool and lush, jungle-like gardens.

This sweet little one-bedroom casa is painted in a palette of deep royal blue and white on the exterior and entirely white on the interior, allowing for the light pouring in through the windows to create a bright space in which to reside. The casa sits in front of the Quadrado and has a rustic outdoor table and chairs, perfect for al fresco dining, while the private garden has a little patio area with a covered day-bed. The open-plan accommodation is arranged on one level and comprises a bright lounge with shuttered windows, white cushions and walls, and rustic furniture throughout. Latticed screens lead through to the kitchen/diner and on to the bedroom, boasting a four-poster bed, whitewashed walls and an al fresco bathroom in the private garden with a sink carved out of reclaimed wood, wooden showers and a bath. A perfect rustic, bijou hideaway (originally a fisherman's cottage), Casa Seu Joao offers superb indoor/outdoor living, with one side of the L-shaped cottage opening out to the expansive decked area, with its free-form swimming pool, hydromassage Jacuzzi, outdoor shower, furnished pergola and dining area. The combined kitchen and living area is charming and typically Bahian, with traditional-style cooking utensils and rustic furniture, while the en suite bedroom is spacious and features a canopied bed and a wonderful open-air garden bathroom with a sunken bath, shower and twin sinks carved from an enormous tree trunk. Beamed ceilings, concrete floors covered by traditional rugs and a neutral colour palette give an overall impression of a traditional abode, while the cottage's floor-to-ceiling windows lead to the outdoor space, featuring handcrafted furniture and a deck.

This magenta-pink casa was inspired by the oldest bougainvilla bush in the area, which sits happily right outside the casa's door! Light and bright, the rustic-style one-bedroom casa boasts whitewashed walls, wooden floors, oversized sofas in the spacious living room, shuttered windows painted magenta, a bar, kitchen/dining room, powder room, shower room with double showers, a bedroom with a canopy bed, an en suite bathroom with twin sinks and floor-to-ceiling patio doors leading to a furnished private balcony and garden, replete with chairs and dining furniture. The casa faces directly onto the Quadrado, perfect for sitting outside watching the comings and goings of the village, glass of wine in hand.

This luxurious one-bedroom treehouse oozes Robinson Crusoe-style rustic chic and is constructed of recycled wood with a thatched roof. Set in a private garden replete with a furnished deck and Jacuzzi, there is an open-air lounge on the ground level with a hammock and swing perfect for enjoying the garden throughout the day. On the first floor the accommodation comprises a spacious bedroom with a canopied bed and an armchair, leading through to the en suite bathroom on one side - with twin sinks, twin showers, a bathroom and wardrobes - while on the opposite side of the bedroom, there is a furnished balcony overlooking the garden. Additionally, you'll find a comfortable al fresco living room. Organic materials are used throughout, predominantly wood, and the colour palette is white with splashes of fresh green.

This lovely three-bedroom duplex casa is one of the original fisherman's cottages and offers an authentic taste of rustic Trancoso design, with locally sourced home decor and whitewashed walls. On the ground floor, the accommodation comprises two en suite bedrooms, a living room, fully equipped kitchen, bar and kitchen. The second bedroom on the ground floor is actually an independent suite in the garden, boasting a cushion-strewn patio for relaxing on. The third bedroom is back in the main casa, on the floor above, and comprises a bedroom with an en suite bathroom and a large furnished terrace. In front of Casa Ze E Zilda, the rustic table and chairs provide a perfect venue for an al fresco dinner party overlooking the Quadrado. This casa would be perfect for up to six family members and/or a group of friends.

Inspired by India, Portugal and South East Asia, this delightful pastacchio-green and white two-bedroom fisherman's cottage is a three-dimensional history lesson of the historical immigration into the area over some five-hundred years and would be perfect for a family or two couples holidaying together. Dark wooden floors, whitewashed walls, stained glass, brightly coloured cushions set against white soft furnishings and traditional ornamentation combine to create a study in hippie chic. The two-storey casa comprises a lounge on each floor, an indoor/outdoor kitchen and a powder room on the ground floor, an en suite bedroom and private balcony on each floor and a television room/lounge on the first floor. Tiered gardens can be found outside, furnished with rustic tables and chairs, and there are super views of the Quadrado, which is just outside the front door.

Inside, through the floor-to-ceiling wall of patio windows, you'll find the stylish accommodation arranged across two floors. On the ground floor you'll find the Master Suite, boasting a canopied bed and huge bathroom with an antique cast iron freestanding bath, along with a stylish living room featuring comfortable lounging furniture and an indoor/outdoor kitchen. The first floor houses the second en suite bedroom, which also boasts a balcony. Delicious, rustic Bahian cuisine is served at UXUA Casa Hotel's main restaurants, poolside or casually at the show kitchen and, with most of the hotel's casas boasting their own kitchens, it is also possible for guests to make their own dishes if they wish, guided by local Chefs. Guests are also welcomed to enjoy one complimentary lunch tasting menu at UXUA Beach Bar during their stay.
