Luxury Holidays At Jao Camp

Jao Camp is located on a large, remote island within a private reserve bordering Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Delta and offers a collection of land and water experiences, depending on the Okavango's flood levels, including catch-and-release fishing, wildlife and bird-watching in the camp's hide, excursions by mokoro (traditional canoe-style boat) and night safaris. The camp has nine spacious and individually handcrafted luxury guest tents built on decks, each with a private sala perfect for afternoon siestas and offering wonderful views of the surrounding floodplains. The camp has a main plunge pool, an open-air gym facing the plains, an entertainment room suitable for private dining, watching wildlife documentaries and enjoying lectures, and a spa offering a range of massages and therapies, including facials and manicures. In addition to dining in the lounge and dining area, guests can enjoy meals under the stars in the outdoor boma.

Safari

This area comprises a superb variety of habitats, ranging from permanent waterways and lagoons on one extreme, to thick Kalahari soils on the other. The wildlife at Jao Camp depends largely on the water levels in the area at the time of your visit. The lagoons are home to hippos and crocodiles and the permanent waters attract large numbers of waterfowl. From October to March the waters subside and the enormous open plains become the highlight. This is when the game-viewing is at its best. Lions, cheetahs and leopards are plentiful, while Tsessebes, red lechwes, zebras and wildebeest dot the floodplains. During the winter months, the water levels at Jao Camp rise and the savannah areas become covered with water. The focus then switches to the water activities, with game-drives available on the larger islands.
