A tropical paradise where warm turquoise water gently laps the palest of white sand beaches, where emerald green palm trees wave gently in the ocean breeze and where the underwater world is as spectacular as the one above. Orpheus Island Lodge is an island-hideaway that gives unrivalled and privileged access to the Great Barrier Reef. Just 14 suites lie scatted across the resort, each boasting an exceptional, full-frontal ocean view. Simple, white pavilions peek out from the lush, tropical forest which covers more than 1,000 hectares of national park, promising serene sanctuaries in which to unwind and relax. Every stay at Orpheus includes three gourmet meals daily, a selection of fine Australian wine, beers and spirits, plus soft beverages and Orpheus signature experiences. Paddleboards, kayaks, dinghies, and snorkelling equipment are all complimentary for guests during their stay. Walking trails weave around the island for those looking for respite from the beach, but there’s also a library, games room, and a sparkling infinity pool. Gwandalan is the exceptional day spa, and in addition to the included experiences, there is an extensive menu of fabulous adventures including diving, fishing, helicopter tours, and eco experiences for guests to enjoy.

Scuba Diving

With an exceptional location on the Great Barrier Reef, the diving experience at Orpheus is second to none. The myriad of marine life that can be found on the reef is outstanding and the local dive sites give habitat to over 1,100 of the 1,500 species of fish found on the reef, as well as a huge diversity of both hard and soft coral. The spectacular outer reefs lie around 75-minutes from Orpheus by boat and private charters are available. Charters include all equipment, a guide, and refreshments.

Hotel Experiences

Orpheus offers a range of included signature experiences for guests to immerse themself in island life. Explore the incredible underwater world with a guided snorkelling experience, or head out on your own and see the protected Giant Clam Garden in the bay. Request a gourmet picnic and venture out in one of the island's motorised dinghies or enjoy one of the many non-motorised watersports available including paddleboarding, kayaking and sailing. The pre-dinner sunset cruise is a wonderful way to end the day as the sun sets over the horizon.

Spa Breaks

Translating as 'peaceful rest' in the aboriginal language, the Gwandalan Spa is a place of sanctuary and calm, where the overwhelming peace of the island flows through every aspect of your treatment. Drift away on an ocean breeze as you find inner calm and allow the talented therapists to sooth and nurture you. Body rituals include wraps and scrubs, infused with elements of the sea, whilst signature treatments include full body massages, hair treatments and facials. For younger spa-goers there is a little menu of children's spa treatments including massage, body wraps and a facial.

Climate

Gold Coast experiences a sub-tropical climate During the summer months of December to February is when the Gold Coast experiences most of its annual rainfall. The average temperatures range between 20°C and 28°C. The hot days are often followed by tropical storms at night. This is an ideal time of year to visit the rainforests and mountain creeks that surround the Gold Coast.

Winter on the Gold Coast sees whales visiting the coast line, the cooler days are great days to get out on the water to whale watch. The cooler temperatures mean that there is also less humidity and less rain so it is the perfect time to spend at the beach and surfing.

The autumn days, March to May, are generally sunny and warm followed by equally warm nights and drier than the summer days. The humidity is lower as well. Autumn on the Gold Coast is the perfect time to enjoy sailing and other water sports due to the winds still being strong and tropical storms being less frequent.

Spring is similar to autumn on the Gold Coast; with a rising humidity as September to November roll by with increasing rainfall and temperatures. This is also the windiest part of the year for the Gold Coast so sports such as sailing, wind surfing, kite surfing and kite boarding are perfect to enjoy.
