Wildlife Encounters in Canada with Elegant Resorts
For lovers of the great outdoors, an eco adventure on the west coast of Canada has to be pretty high up on one’s wish list – and the long journey to get there is so worth it. Each of our featured luxury lodges is located in a remote location of such staggering natural beauty – all nestled right on the coast amongst acres and acres of lush green rainforest, majestic peaks and vast expanses of deep-blue water – and some are so remote, they can only be accessed via a helicopter or seaplane transfer. Whichever lodge you choose, you are guaranteed luxurious accommodation, coupled with a unique wilderness adventure that will live in the mind forever, delivered by teams of professional wilderness guides who will ensure you are as safe as possible while imparting their considerable knowledge to enrich your experience.
All of our featured lodges offer bear-viewing excursions and, at Sonora Resort, a particularly good time to see the elusive creatures is in the autumn, from the safety of a viewing tower, when the Grizzly Bear visits Orford River to feed on salmon. In the spring and summer at Clayoquot Wilderness Retreat, Black Bears can be viewed feasting on berries, turning their attentions to spawning salmon and hay shoots in the nearby estuary by early autumn, while at Wickaninnish Inn you can take a trip out on a zodiac or a covered boat with a viewing deck to observe shy Black Bears from an entirely different perspective. Whale-watching and dolphin-watching excursions are very popular when staying around the coast of Vancouver, with opportunities to view Grey and Humpback Whales from March to October, along with Pacific White Dolphins and Orcas. In addition, guided eco tours, nature hikes through 800-year-old cedar forest and bird-watching excursions allow for discovery of a huge variety of creatures, from Bald Eagles and sea birds, to otters, seals and minks.
