Highlights
Corfu Old Town
Flaunting the elegance of Venice through its architecture and fortresses, the chicness of Paris through its café-lined parades, and the charm of the Mediterranean through its cobbled streets and bustling squares, as well as the distinct vibrancy of Corfu itself in its lively drinking, dining and dancing hotspots, Corfu Town is both timeless and cosmopolitan, boasting UNESCO World Heritage status and plenty to explore. We recommend a guided walking tour to get the very most of your time here, which our Elegant Concierge service will be happy to arrange.
Olive Oil Tasting
Corfu is home to millions of olive trees, making the olive oil production plentiful and of top quality. Head to a local mill for a guided tour of the groves, equipment and, most importantly, tastings of the incredible product. Our featured hotel Domes Miramare offers excursions to the award-winning Governors Olive Oil groves, which is so pure and high in health-giving Oleocanthal that it's considered a medicine!
The Achilleion Palace
Otherwise known as the Palace of Sissi, this renowned landmark is located in the village of Gastouri, not far from Corfu Old Town. Built by the grieving Austrian Empress Elizabeth, also known as Sissi, as her dedicated summer palace back in 1890, it is well worth a visit, offering beautiful gardens with great views, several impressive statues and stunning frescoes inside. Ancient Greek hero Achilles is the central theme of the architecturally Italianate palace, with the famous Dying Achilles statue forming the centrepiece of the gardens.
Mon Repos Estate
Just a couple of kilometres from the Old Town, Mon Repos Estate was once the site of the ancient settlement of Paleopolis. Now, a neoclassical villa nestles within the wooded parkland, perhaps best known as the birthplace of Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. This impressive building houses the Museum of Palaeopolis, which offers various historical displays and photographs – including on the history of the treasured Old Town.
Danilia Village and Museum
A charming replica of a 1930s Corfiot village built as an open-air museum, Danilia Park is surrounded by greenery, home to squares, a lovely church and functioning tavern. Hit ITV series ‘The Durrells’ was largely filmed here, while Danilia was also the backdrop to some of the James Bond classic ‘For Your Eyes Only.’ Our featured hotel Grecotel Imperial owns this enchanting village and arranges great excursions here.
Walking and Hiking
With countryside filled with olive groves and forested hillsides that look out over the beautiful beaches and across the Ionian Sea, Corfu is a great destination for some seriously scenic hiking. The aptly named Corfu Trail spans the length of the island, offering various routes that take you through enchanting untouched landscapes. On the island's most southerly peninsula, Alikes is a protected 'Natura' area that is renowned for its birdlife, particularly the flamingos that nest around the saline water of Lake Alikes.
Paxos and Antipaxos
Easily accessed by scenic boat ride from Corfu Town, the nearby island of Paxos is the ideal day trip if you’re a fan of stunning beaches, picturesque Greek villages, idyllic seafront tavernas and rugged sea caves. Antipaxos, meanwhile, measures just 4km long, a truly unspoilt island that is known for is chalk-white coastline, more beautiful beaches and serious seclusion; there are only a handful of houses, a couple of tavernas and no shops on this patch of paradise.
Beautiful Beaches
With over 215km of coastline, Corfu offers a beach for everyone – whether you’re seeking perfectly soft sand, a family-friendly spot, isolated cove, or pebbled bay surrounded by pines. Of the countless choices, thirty have been awarded Blue Flag status, while watersports can be enjoyed around the island.
