Highlights
Safari
Spot not just the ‘Big 5’ but the ‘Super 7’ in Madikwe Game Reserve – elephant, Black and White rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. Many highly endangered species are now thriving in the area thanks to ‘Operation Phoenix’, a phenomenally successful game reintroduction programme, giving Madikwe the second biggest population of elephant after Kruger. Other regular sightings include hyenas, zebra, giraffe and different kinds of antelope. Game viewing options include exhilarating 4x4 drives, walking safaris, bush breakfasts and, of course, you can spot these gorgeous creatures from the comfort of your private verandah.
History
100 times older than Everest, the Magaliesberg Mountains and surrounding region, attract visitors from across the globe to a World Heritage Paleoanthropological Site called ‘The Cradle of Humankind’. Here, you’ll find around a dozen, alluring limestone caves featuring astonishing fossilised remains of age-old animals, plants and hominids, as well as a fascinating visitor centre.
Adventure
Hartbeespoort Dam, affectionately known as ‘Harties’, is a gateway to adventures on land and water for visitors and locals alike - offering hiking and rambling, horse-riding and quad biking, river rafting and tube rides, catamaran cruises and more.
