The Best Places To Stay In Greece For Families

With a plethora of tourist attractions ranging from the historic sites of Athens to idyllic secluded islands, Greece has a lot to offer families. Whilst couples may head for romantic Santorini or lively Mykonos, families are flocking to Crete, Zakynthose, Halkidiki and Peloponnese to savour a summer of fun and to explore a wealth of historic treasures. Discover the best places to stay in Greece for families and plan a summer of Grecian delights with our list of classic treasures.

Crete

The ancient Minoan capital of Knossos is a fitting place to start exploring the great wonders of Greece. As Europe's oldest civilisation, families can visit Heraklion Archaeological Museum (conveniently complementing the UK primary school curriculum), and the site considered to be the birthplace of Zeus. The Dikteon Cave on the Lasithi Plateau, with its striking stalactites and stalagmites, is bound to fire the imagination of your budding explorers.
Why not stay on the Elounda Peninsula and savour the best of both worlds - old and new. Blue Palace, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, is one of the best places to stay in Greece for families since it's only a few hundred metres away from the historic island of Spinalonga - a national monument, plus it offers a wonderful beach experience. With the mirroring waters of the Cretan Pelagos and small fishing village of Plaka, there is plenty to discover. Within the resort, children aged 3 to 12 years can enjoy Greek dancing, theatrical plays, kayaking, windsurfing and canoeing, whilst cultural boat tours and visits to the nearby Cretaquarium, one of Europe's largest aquariums, make for exciting day tours.

During the summer months, Loggerhead Turtles return to the same beautiful shores, whilst families can take the opportunity to explore Navagio Beach, the nearby Tsilivi Waterpark or take to the glittering Ionian Sea for a wealth of nautical adventures.
The award-winning Porto Zante Villas and Spa - voted 'Europe's Leading Beach Hotel' at the 2017 World Travel Awards - is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and provides families with the perfect base from which to sample the island's treasures. With just eight luxury villas, privacy is assured and families can simply relax in their own private heated pool, or tropical garden, and admire the distant views of Kefalonia.
