For families of ski-enthusiasts, this is the perfect chance to jet off to the Alps; France is idyllic for families, with Courchevel 1850 boasting plenty of child-friendly slopes, while Megève is great for its sleepy village vibe.

If you'd rather spend a week in the sun than the snow, the Caribbean is still in its prime season. Bright and colourful, children are guests of honour on these islands, with resorts including Sandy Lane in Barbados, Carlisle Bay and Blue Waters in Antigua and Four Seasons Nevis providing amazing kids' clubs. Of course, there's also watersports, boat trips and island adventures to wear little ones out!

If you want to go a little further afield, February is also a great time to visit the Maldives, where the whole family can learn about the incredible marine conservation efforts, plus enjoy some boundless diving opportunities. New Zealand and South Africa, meanwhile, are enjoying their summer months, with outdoor adventures and safari trips high on the cards.

Temperatures in the Canary Islands are pleasant year-round, though for a short-haul, hassle-free family Easter break, Tenerife is the perfect choice, with plenty of family-friendly resorts close to the beach.

If you are seeking something a little more cultural, Marrakech in Morocco is in its peak travel season. A short flight, but a world away in terms of culture, expand young minds with an adventure around bustling souks, elaborate mosques and ancient Medinas. Alternatively, try Scottsdale in Arizona. Neither too hot or too cool, there are plenty of galleries, museums and an award-winning zoo, plus exciting desert adventures such as hiking, biking and horse-riding.

Dubai is also great for school holidays travel in Easter. There is plenty to keep children excited with, including Aquaventure Waterpark, Kidzania and Ski Dubai. It's also just an hour's drive to Abu Dhabi, meaning you can make a day trip to Yas Waterpark, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque - one of the largest mosques in the world - and the recently opened Louvre Abu Dhabi.

If you've managed to make it until May half term without a getaway, or require a dose of sunshine, the weather starts to warm up in Europe around May. Crete and Cyprus are good options for families, as is Sun Gardens Dubrovnik in Croatia; here, there is a great range of dedicated sports academies, plus the old city square of Dubrovnik is nearby and at a more comfortable temperature to explore.

Scottsdale in Arizona is still in its spring-time prime during half term, while Florida is gearing up for thrill-seekers, too. With less rainfall than the summer months, there's fewer tropical showers and you will find the beaches of Miami less crowded.

The summer holidays are packed with short-haul sojourns to Europe for many families. Greece showcases a collection of summer holiday spots including Peloponnese, Halkidiki and Crete, where sunny afternoons can be spent taking it easy at tavernas and pottering around on boats. The Algarve is also less than a three-hour flight from the UK, while Forte Village in Sardinia is a world of its own, with a dedicated Children's Wonderland.

The USA is a favourite for families during the summer. California offers a playground for children and adults alike, with lakes, mountains and beaches to explore, while San Diego in the south boasts one of the USA's best beaches, lively Mexican-inspired cuisine and plenty to see and do. For a real American wilderness experience, Montana has a number of luxury ranches, offering escapades across the pine-strewn mountains and evenings spent toasting marshmallows around the campfire; it's the perfect digital detox.

For wildlife-lovers, Tanzania and Botswana make ideal safari options. In Tanzania, the wildebeest migration across the Serengeti is best seen during June and July, giving the whole family a chance for a memorable wildlife encounter.
