Our Expert Recommendations for New Zealand

Take inspiration from our team's travel stories!

Step into the enchanting world of New Zealand, where extraordinary landscapes are the backdrop to incredible experiences. It's a dream destination for adventurers, nature enthusiasts and anyone seeking a luxurious escape. From crashing waterfalls to pristine beaches, each of New Zealand's diverse landscapes is an ode to Mother Nature's artistry, and the welcoming nature of the country means that it is beckoning to be explored.

This picture-perfect paradise has become a favourite destination with our team, and you can discover why in their stories below! Find out more about their experiences in New Zealand, as well as their must-visit places and travel recommendations for when you set out on your own escape to this South Pacific gem.

My first visit to New Zealand was whilst I was working on the Lions Tour in 2011. I instantly fell in love with the spectacular scenery, warm hospitality and incredible cultural and wildlife experiences that the country has to offer. I've been lucky enough to visit a couple of times since, covering most of the key areas across both islands.

On my latest trip in May 2023, I concentrated on exploring the South Island. It's hard to put into words how breathtaking the scenery of the Southern Alps is - I have tried all modes of transport from helicopter flights and a fixed-wing plane ride to scheduled flights, and even the trans-alpine train. They all offer a different perspective but are equally as beautiful.
I would recommend staying outside of Queenstown as here, you can be a short drive from all the hustle and bustle, yet in another world. With properties like Azur Lodge, you can look out from your beautiful private villa onto the amazing scenery beyond, while also being pampered by some of the finest hospitality New Zealand has to offer!

My first experience with New Zealand was in 1999 when I spent an entire year travelling and living there. Spending this length of time in the country gave me the opportunity to get under the skin of New Zealand and truly get to know what makes it so beloved by its people. They are so proud to be Kiwis and though many will adventure around the world, they will also return back home. For me, this really says a lot about what a special place this is.
My tip would be to venture beyond the tourist hotspots and discover the Abel Tasman National Park. Often overlooked, this gem offers pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. Whilst I spent a while here, you can definitely still see it all in a day, especially if you explore by kayak!

I'd also recommend early risers take a hike up to the lighthouse at Te Araroa, New Zealand's most Easterly point, for a breathtaking sunrise. Down in the South, if time allows, Stewart Island is an absolute gem and offers a fantastic opportunity for spotting Kiwi birds in the wild, what could be more New Zealand than that!?

I love New Zealand due to the dramatic and diverse scenery you can find there. I've been lucky enough to travel through both the North and South islands, and the natural beauty across both is just incredible.

There are two places that I have to recommend if you're visiting this country. The first is Rotorua, where a visit to the geothermal park, Wai-O-Tapu, is an absolute must! The earth here literally bubbles beneath your feet - it's unlike anything I've experienced elsewhere. Another option is a visit to 'Hobbiton' where the Lord of the Rings movies were filmed, or for the more adventurous travellers, you can even white water raft Tutea Falls, the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world.

The second spot is Napier, known for its Art Deco charm. It's a really beautiful city, with magnificent buildings - it even holds the Napier Art Deco Festival every February! A walking tour around the city, followed by a trip through the countryside to the world-famous Hawkes Bay for some wine tasting is the perfect way to explore the area.
