My Unforgettable Stay at Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama

A first-hand guide to one of Tenerife's go-to hotels...

Sitting as a sprawling escape on a clifftop of Tenerife's west coast, The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama has become one of the top choices for a holiday to the Canary Islands. You'll get everything you expect from Tenerife, with large palm trees, terracotta buildings and sea views. But there's plenty more that make this a year-round destination for all types of travellers.

Having just returned from my own trip here, this is my guide to everything The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama has to offer.

The Rooms

The Citadel Junior Suite at The Ritz-Carlton Abama, welcomed me with its spacious, airy and contemporary feel, making it the perfect place to relax during my stay in Tenerife. One of my favourite features of the room was the private balcony terrace, which offered stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the lush gardens of the resort, all set within the famous terracotta red stone.

I also loved the elegantly decorated room, in hues of cream, white and duck egg blue and the modern, sophisticated furnishings. The spacious bathroom was equipped with a deep soaking tub and separate rain shower, which gave a spa-like experience at the end of a day in the sunshine.

As well as luxurious suites, Ritz Carlton Abama Tenerife boats a range of villas and interconnected rooms, the crowning glory of which is the opulent Royal Suite, which offers the highest level of luxury, featuring expansive living spaces, stunning panoramic views of the Ocean, and a private terrace garden.
Alongside its multiple bedrooms, elegant dining and living areas, a private pool, and a luxurious bathroom, guests staying here can enjoy exclusive services, such as personalised butler service, VIP check-in, and access to all of the resort's facilities. The Royal Suite is designed for those seeking the ultimate luxury experience, with privacy, comfort, and world-class amenities integrated into every aspect.

The Facilities

Thanks to the spacious resort and incredible facilities, no day will feel the same at Ritz Carlton Abama. One of the resort's standout features is the numerous swimming pools, scattered across the resort, which offer guests everything from family-friendly options to quieter private spaces.

The lagoon pool at the heart of the resort overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and forms a centrepiece for the hotel - it's the perfect place for adults and kids to swim and splash, whilst the Persian Garden Pool provides a quieter sanctuary for relaxation and calm. The renowned Ritz-Carlton Spa is also not to be missed, where an extensive menu of treatments, hydrotherapy circuits, and wellness programmes ensure relaxation and rejuvenation.

Guests who love the green can take advantage of the championship 18-hole golf course, designed by Dave Thomas, with stunning views and challenging play. Or there are plenty of options for other sports lovers, like professional-level tennis courts and an academy, fitness centre, and watersports. For families, the Ritz Kids programme offers engaging activities focussed on the environment and exploration.
There really is something for everyone.

Delicious Food

A bastion of culinary excellence, The Ritz-Carlton, Abama's gourmet offering is world-renowned, so I would thoroughly recommend this property for foodies. The incredible choice of venues means there is something for everyone. M.B., awarded not one but two Michelin stars, presents a culinary journey built on memories and innovation for a true gastronomic experience.
Akira Back Tenerife, with one Michelin Star, serves modern Japanese cuisine inspired by a sense of adventure and boundless creativity. Incredibly, the resort offers three Michelin-starred restaurants, with the third, Txoko, offering contemporary dining inspired by traditional Basque cuisine and brought to you by Michelin-starred chef Martín Berasategui.

Verde Mar gives something really different - a vegetable-forward approach and a home-style cooking mentality that features fresh and locally sourced produce. Of all the dining options, my personal favourite is El Mirador due to its spectacular cliff-top location. You get uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean while enjoying seafood, fish and rice with a Mediterranean touch.

Further Afield

For those who want to explore a little further afield, Ritz-Carlton Tenerife Abama is in the ideal location. During my stay, I was lucky enough to immerse myself in the culture and history of Tenerife. Just 40 minutes from the hotel lies Mount Teide National Park, where visitors can hike, watch the sunset, stargaze or ride the cable car to the top of the mountain.

San Cristobal de La Laguna is an absolute must for anyone with an interest in history and culture - just over one hour away by car, this unique city is full of charm.

The best way to explore the city is on foot, and as you stroll through the narrow streets, you will soon discover why this city is on UNESCO's heritage site list. Steeped in history, it is easy to feel as though you have stepped back in time. I would recommend booking one of the experienced guides for a private tour.
Finally, another delight of the island is the vineyards and winelands, which thrive in a unique climate. The island's wine production is marked by indigenous grape varieties like Listán Blanco and Listán Negro, which yield distinct, flavourful wines.
Many vineyards are located on the island's terraced slopes, with some even planted at high altitudes near Mount Teide. Wine tours and tastings offer visitors a chance to experience the unique vineyards, complemented by breathtaking landscapes, views and, of course, the wine sampling!

Whether you want to unwind at the beach, enjoy family time together, sample a la carte cuisine or find a base from which to explore the island, I couldn't recommend Ritz Carlton Tenerife Abama enough!
