The first thing that hits you as you walk through the immaculate gateway of Silversands is the pool. It's not just any pool - at 100m long it's the largest in the Caribbean, and with an infinity edge, it looks as though it runs straight into the turquoise sea. No matter what time of day - sunrise, midday, sunset, dusk or evening, it only has one "look" - spectacular.
After receiving a refreshing drink, handmade necklace and a warm welcome, I started to fully take in my surroundings. Sleek, minimalistic, sophisticated and exclusive, Silversands feels like everything has been designed around you, allowing your focus to be on the stunning Grenadian surroundings.
After a few smooth check-in procedures, we made our way to the accommodation at the stunning Villa 2. This four-bedroom haven backs straight on to Grand Anse Beach - a 1.5 mile stretch of golden sands, calm aquamarine waters and shady palms. Facing East, the location enables guests to drink in the spectacular Grenadian sunsets at the end of every day and with private sun loungers edging the property, it's the perfect location to watch the beach come alive in the distance, with tourists, joggers, swimmers and kayakers adding life and soul to the sands. It gives a welcoming sense of connection to the locality, but don't be mistaken for thinking this compromises privacy - the section directly in front of Silversands, though public, is extremely peaceful, the water is gentle and ideal for swimming, and furtive resort security adds a strong feeling of safety.
Inside the villa, everything felt pared-down, sophisticated, and soft. Technology controlled the lighting; air temperature and curtains and the bed was luxurious and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious, with a double sink, bathtub, walk in shower and an outdoor shower bordered by tropical leafy vegetation. Outside, the shady terrace with plunge pool was the perfect place to unwind with a drink, read a good book and take a dip. The living area was spacious, with plenty of soft furnishings to relax on, and the kitchen was fitted out with the latest tech and perfectly designed storage solutions. For those not wanting to eat in the main restaurant area, a private chef can come to you and prepare meals, whilst the butler service caters to any other needs you may have. If the main pool wasn't enough, or, for those wanting more privacy, the pool at Villa 2 is the perfect place for a morning or evening swim.
The staff at the resort were nothing short of first-class. Friendly, welcoming, and attentive, after just a few nights, they felt like friends, and I was sad to leave them behind. (Although who can blame them for staying in sunny Grenada as opposed to rainy Britain!) Whether you wanted a quick snap taken by the pool, advice about where to go and what to see on the island, a specific drink or food order, nothing is too much trouble.
The main restaurant at Silversands Asiatique, which in the evening serves creative, modern pan-Asian dishes, using Caribbean ingredients, and exceptional breakfast spreads in the morning. Whether you are seated inside under the high ceiling or outside on the terrace, the sunshine floods in, in the morning, and the vibe feels laid back at night. Dietary requirements are expertly handled and again, the staff are outstanding.
As well as relaxing at the beach or pool, you may also want to relax at the spa. Silversands is home to large spa complex, with a state-of-the-art gym, therapy rooms, outdoor pool, sauna, and steam room. Again, design is front of mind, with huge orbs hanging from a slatted wooden roof over the outdoor spa pool, and curved cabanas giving a one-of-a-kind futuristic feel.
Outside of the resort, there is a whole island to discover, and from Silversands, it's all just a short distance away. Boat trips allow you to take in views of the stunningly blue ocean, snorkelling at the underwater sculpture park gives a unique perspective, authentic beach grills add flavours of the Caribbean, and the local produce is all here to be experienced, from rum and shea butter through to chocolate and nutmeg. St George's, Grenada's historic and colourful capital, is just a 10-minute drive away, full of restaurants, shops, bars and much more, there are plenty of adventures to be had on jeep tours, hikes and at the natural pools below Annandale waterfall and forest.
For an authentic
Caribbean escape,
Grenada has it all, and for those wanting to experience the highest level of luxury, the exceptional Silversands is the perfect choice.
