Five Reasons to Travel to The Florida Keys

Adventure awaits...

With the USA welcoming (vaccinated) UK travellers from November and the British winter coming in thick and fast, there's never been a better time to escape to the stunning seascapes, charming towns and year-round sunshine of The Florida Keys - a 125-mile-long chain of islands off the southern tip of the USA, between the Atlantic Gulf and the Gulf of Mexico. So, what makes this patch of paradise so special?

1. It's sunny all-year-round

Just one of the many reasons we love The Florida Keys is that it enjoys glorious weather pretty much every month of the year. This is especially tempting during the winter. As the British nights get longer and temperatures drop, Floridians enjoy next to no rain and delightful temperatures that range between around 20 and 27 degrees - perfect.

2. It's the perfect place for a post-pandemic chill

Space is so important these days and it's offered in abundance across the Florida Keys - a 125-mile long chain of islands! Enjoy the perfect balance between atmosphere and seclusion (as well as safety), allowing you to truly relax and rejuvenate following the trials and tribulations of the past couple of years!

3. There's so much to see and do

Perhaps the island that springs to mind when you think of The Florida Keys is Key West, Florida's southernmost subtropical paradise. Here, uncover a unique combination of history, natural beauty, cultural diversity, architecture and unabashed romantic appeal. Days are best spent sightseeing, diving, fishing, enjoying watersports or golfing, whilst evening is the time to embrace the bustling nightlife - from sidewalk cafes to world-class restaurants to theatrical masterpieces.

The island chain is so much more than just Key West, though. The (sunset facing and serene) Lower Keys are home to two national wildlife refuges, a national marine sanctuary and a state park - making them pretty popular with wildlife lovers and alfresco adventurers. Ride a bicycle through Key Deer country, take a fishing adventure in the backcountry, or troll the deep blue waters beyond the reef. Located right in the centre of The Keys, Marathon is a ten-mile-long island community that is simply superb for families, whilst Islamorada (made up of six islands) lies nestled between the saltwater wilderness of Everglades National Park and the deep blue waters of the Florida Strait. Here, it's all about boating, fishing and diving. Finally, Key Largo (the first and northernmost island in the chain) is the place to head for beautiful beaches, winding creeks and botanical scenery, whilst the legendary Everglades National Park fringes it to the west.

For the full Florida Keys experience on your luxury holiday, we recommend that you spend at least four days in the Upper Keys (Key Largo, Islamorada and Marathon), enjoying the adventure activities such as snorkelling, paddle boarding and exploring the Everglades, before heading down to the fantastic nature areas in the Lower Keys and the wonderfully quirky hub of Key West.

4. The food is first-class

We can guarantee you'll never go hungry during your luxury Florida Keys holiday. Indigenous Florida Keys cuisine incorporates diverse and delicious influences with an abundant array of fresh fish and super-succulent seafood harvested from local waters. Look out for Key West pink shrimp, stone crabs, mahi-mahi ceviche and blackened lionfish on menus, whilst non-fish eaters have plenty of choice too! If you fancy a tipple, fans of craft beers, ales, rums and more can find plenty to tempt them in the Florida Keys, with the island chain fast developing a reputation for innovative, high-quality brewing and distilling.

5. There are some amazing luxury hotels

There are plenty of fabulous luxury hotels for you to choose from in The Keys, whether you're seeking a super-secluded lodge or sprawling seafront resort. In fact, many of our featured Florida Keys resorts were ranked in Florida's top 15 properties at the World's Best Awards in 2021. Our featured luxury hotels include...

Little Palm Island Resort & Spa, Little Torch Key: Seriously serene and set on its own private island, the delightfully thatched bungalows here are dotted amidst acres of tropical flora and fauna, linked by winding paths created from crushed seashells, whilst there's also an award-winning restaurant, world-class spa and an array of aquatic adventures on offer.

Isla Bella Beach Resort & Spa, Marathon: Set along one mile of waterfront and amid 24 acres of beautifully landscaped tropical native gardens, this charming boutique resort has it all. Think island-inspired accommodation, incredible cuisine, a variety of watersports and a stunning spa.

Playa Largo Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection, Key Largo: Located right off the scenic Overseas Highway and neighbouring the famed John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, this stylish resort is all about an Ameri-Caribbean aesthetic and embracing the great outdoors. There's a private beach, non-motorised watersports and plenty of alfresco dining options.

The Islands of Islamorada, Islamorada: This unique seaside sanctuary is perfect if you're seeking seclusion, home to just 30 one-bedroom suites and three-storey villas. Soak up the sunshine from the beach, snorkel in the shallows, sip cocktails at the beachfront bar, or unwind with a treatment at the spa.
