A luxury holiday to France’s Côte d’Azur with Elegant Resorts conjures up images of ultra chic living against a backdrop of azure-blue bays, perhaps most famously in the glitzy resort of Saint-Tropez. At its heart, the lovely Provençale fishing village remains, but it’s the golden beaches, stylish harbour filled with super yachts and fashionable parties that have made it a summer haunt of the jet-set for decades.
Similarly, St-Jean on the opulent Cap-Ferrat peninsula, which although small with a leisurely village feel, has luxury yachts in its pretty port, a good helping of private villas and a beautiful sandy beach. Art lovers can visit the Muse Ephrussi de Rothschild that houses the Baroness Ephrussi de Rothschild’s personal collection of paintings, furniture and porcelain.
Slightly inland, Mougins, surrounded by forests and olive groves, offers wonderful views of the sea and the Esterel mountains. Over the years the peaceful village has been home to celebrities including Man Ray, Yves Saint Laurent, Catherine Deneuve and Picasso. Mougins is also renowned for its excellent restaurants. In contrast, Cannes, just four and a half miles away, is an exuberant destination with designer shops and pretty, yet busy, beaches, and a world-famous Film Festival held each May.
